This morning while letting the dogs out we noticed what we thought was a leaf but it was a baby turtle who is smaller than my thumb. We live hundreds of yards from the closest pond so we were a bit shocked as he sure didn't walk that far. Moments later a bird swoops in trying to pick him up. Of course we rescued him from the mockingbird but then it dawned on me he must have been caught and was being taken back to a nest as breakfast. I took this as a brief opportunity to shoot a couple of quick portraits before we took him back to the pond. Let's hope he survives and remembers what a crazy day May 3rd was!
